Lawlessness in the UK - flag broken and cracked

Lawlessness in the UK is on the rise, scandals are hitting our headlines frequently and it seems a weekly occurrence to hear of a new morbid secret being brought to light. Some revelations are shocking enough to leave us in state of disbelief and are incomprehensible. Many of these scandals affect many people and some completely unaware that they are even victims. We can also be sure that many people live in a continual state of fear, dreading the day their own involvement hits the headlines.

Time often reveals there have been cover ups upon cover ups! Organisations and institutions we used to trust are being found guilty of hiding information to prevent exposure and/or gross incompetence. Well known people are being implicated in these scandals at all levels of involvement.

Many happened quite a few years ago – why are they being revealed now?

Jimmy Saville scandal

Jimmy Savile Abuse Scandal Report: Timeline

Jimmy Saville died on 29th October 2011, while putting together an obituary his “dark side” was rediscovered. Over time more than 200 sexually related crimes were recorded against Saville, including 34 of rape. Saville sexually abused many throughout his 60 year career, from an 8-year-old boy to a 47-year-old woman – NSPCC Report. Many failings and cover-ups have been discovered within the BBC, one of the UK’s biggest media organisation, during the investigation.

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. (1 John 2:16)

Phone-hacking scandal

News of the World phone-hacking scandal
In January 2011, the Metropolitan Police started an investigation into phone-hacking which went back to 2006. Slowly the investigation widened, resulting in over 4,000 people as possible victims of the NoW phone-hacking. Targets included a wide range of people from actors to relatives of deceased UK soldiers. In July 2011, Rupert Murdoch closes down the News of the World. This all comes down to money and greed, listening in to calls, trying to catch a scoop to make headlines.

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows (1 Timothy 6:10)

Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity (Matthew 23:28)

MP expenses scandal

MPs’ expenses: the timeline

In 2004 the Freedom of Information Act came into effect but the MPs’ were exempt. For five years the MPs’ tried to have their expenses data hidden but in mid-2009 they failed. Then a steady flow of stories kept hitting the headlines of how a number of MPs’ had abused the expenses system. Some of the claims were just bizarre – The most bizarre claims – showing what some MPs’ have tried to get away with. It resulted in £1.1million being repaid to the taxpayer by over half of the Commons. There is no other word for this other than greed!

He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another man’s, who shall give you that which is your own? No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. (Luke 16:10-13)

Horsemeat scandal

How the horsemeat scandal unfolded

Mid-January 2013 it was discovered that some beef products contained 29% horsemeat. After investigations some products were found to contain 100% horsemeat! It says something when we cannot trust what is written on food products anymore. This scandal has revealed fraud and adulteration with food providers, also lack of complete unawareness from the Food Standards Agency. It is interesting that Christianity first brought about a stop to eating horsemeat in Britain, now we live in days when people are turning against God – How Christianity stopped Anglo-Saxon England eating horsemeat.

And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold (Matthew 24:12)

Catholic scandals

In March 2013, one of Britain’s most senior Roman Catholics, Cardinal Keith O’Brien admitted to making sexual advances to trainee priests. But unfortunately this just the latest in a long list sexual scandals to come out of the Catholic Church. In England and Wales 37 priests have commited sexuals crimes against children – Catholic abuse in England and Wales revealed. The Catholic Church cannot get away from these scandals, once it goes quiet a new one is revealed – Sex abuse – the scandal the Catholic Church cannot shake. Sexuals scandals are common place in the headlines now, celebrities and high profile peoples past are now being revealed.

And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great. (Luke 6:46-49 emphasis added)

These scandals listed are just a few examples, we are not singling these out against other crimes – they simply give a small insight into what is being revealed around us. Lawlessness is rife in all levels of society and we are witnessing this every day in the UK. 2 Timothy describes exactly what we are seeing today as covered in our Are we living in the end times? article:

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. (2 Timothy 3:1-7)

Many forget that God knows every single one of our thoughts, nothing is or can be hidden from Him:

O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. (Psalm 139:1-4)

We will be held accountable to Him for our actions, judgment is a reality that will affect everyone:

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (Hebrews 9:27)

But we can be forgiven, we can turn to Him and repent!

God is revealing the lawlessness in the UK. He is uncovering the lawlessness that is rife in the UK to wake us up! God wants the UK to repent and turn to Him and this starts on an individual level. If we do He will bless us.

We are living in days when there is much corruption at every level of our society. We do not know when the next scandal will be revealed or what nature it will be, but God knows everything and is in control.

As a country let’s turn to Him!

Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. (Titus 2:13-14)
