It’s been a very eventful year from a Christian perspective – the world continues to groan and travail as the return of our Lord edges nearer. Events appear to be spiralling towards some kind of climax on a number of fronts with many starting to sense that the world is on the brink of something big – there appears to be an increasing degree of hysteria and uncertainty at the moment with many people feeling unsettled. Whilst this goes on, faithful Christian’s watch with dismay at a world which attempts to shut God out of every public square and silence the mention many Biblical morals. Meanwhile, much of the mainstream church appears to capitulate to an increasingly intolerant and aggressive society through compromise and silence.
Despite all of this, the believer’s hopes rest in the work of Jesus Christ, his faithful promises and the knowledge that He will put everything right when He returns. We can particularly take comfort at Christmas time when reminded of the awesome gift of salvation available through Jesus’ willingness to enter our world. Although He arrived as a baby, he is now the risen King of Kings and Lord of Lords – soon to return and establish His Kingdom!
