Within the social climate of the UK, we have long reached the point where common sense and truth have been overtaken in importance by the avoidance of causing offence. However, with ‘gender-neutrality’, we have arrived at a point where we are being forced to agree with a clear lie. This is where the cult of ‘political correctness’ has reached new levels of absurdity as the erosion of womanhood gains pace.
We are now being asked (soon to be forced) to stop referring to pregnant women as ‘women’ – it appears they are pregnant ‘people’. This is clearly ridiculous. No ‘man’ has ever got pregnant, not one – it is physically and biologically impossible. There are examples of women who wish to be identified as men becoming pregnant, but they are still a woman. We rarely share political blogs but these comments from Brendan O’Neil sum this up perfectly.
It has taken centuries to overturn female inequality, but this new ‘gender’ issue threatens to completely destroy the ground that has been made. As Brendan O’Neil says, ‘woman-only’ spaces will be obliterated if Gender Recognition legislation is pushed through as intended. Consider this: woman’s sport will be over as any man wanting to win sports titles will simply ‘self-identify’ as a woman and mop up the prize money in the process. Women-only short-lists for awards and positions will be also become open for men. Equality and opportunity for women will be erased in an instant. More sinister than all, the pinnacle of womanhood is the privilege of bringing a new life into the world and yet this unique blessing which brings such dignity and joy is now being diluted by this lunacy.
As Bible-believing Christians, we shouldn’t be too surprised or alarmed – it is fairly obvious we are living in a time where any reference to Biblical morality is being deliberately swept aside. But what leaves us absolutely astonished is that certain parts of the mainstream church are taking this seriously! There is even consideration in some Anglican circles for individuals who have ‘changed’ gender to be re-baptised in there new gender to recognize their transition!
This is worse than ridiculous – it is a lamentable example of how the crazy world of secular humanism has infiltrated the church. Churches that have already compromised with issues such as the definition of marriage now have a problem: once you compromise on certain Biblical standards because of the whims of secular culture, there is no logical basis to dig your heels in over the ‘gender’ issue. If you allow feeling, emotion and experience to be the arbiters of moral behaviour with human relationships, there is no rationale for not extending this to include gender. So for example, if you accept ‘same-sex’ marriage because of the notion that people are born that way and sexuality is fluid, you have no basis to reject new definitions on gender because, again, some people say they are simply born that way and that gender is fluid. You have to be consistent – you can’t ‘pick and choose’. This is where the slippery slope of compromise within the mainstream church is unavoidably leading to complete capitulation and surrender to the societies latest moral and behavioural trends.
It’s difficult to see what will come of this ‘gender recognition’ movement. In our view, we have edged past a point of ‘no return’ for many core features of Biblical moral behaviour. For example, it’s difficult to see a return to the Biblical definition of marriage as there would have to be an unprecedented revival to stem the tide of legislation that is deliberately removing every moral boundary given by the Lord. We believe it’s only the return of the Lord Jesus that can restore the mess we are in.
It’s time for the faithful to stand firm and be strong in the Lord – this is no time at all for compromise. Time is clearly short, deception is continuing to reach a climax. Sitting on the fence is no longer an option – it’s time to decide who you will serve and then stand firm and be strong. Remember, the battle is spiritual in nature as the passage below explains:
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (Ephesians 6:10-13 KJV)
The passage above was recently the subject of a sermon titled “A Time to be Strong” given at St Andrew’s Baptist Church – feel free to listen here if interested.
