Faith Under Fire - Chris Prater

We highly recommend this sermon ‘Faith Under Fire’ in which Chris Prater brings to life an obscure passage in 2 Kings. Chris does a wonderful job of expounding the account faithfully, providing surprising relevance for today and even finding a possible link to the pre-trib rapture!

We pray you are encouraged by it…

Parent and child holding hands, role of the parent being replaced by the state

By any measure, there have been enormous changes in thinking sweeping across society over the last few years, leaving many uneasy with the pace and scale of the change. Worryingly for some, most of these changes are leading to every firm pillar of Biblical morality being swept from underneath an entire generation. Whether it’s the sanctity of life, sexual conduct/attitudes, the definition of marriage or gender identity, the sheer aggression and intolerance that accompanies these changes is the most disturbing feature – especially as it’s the youngest in society who are now being targeted, primarily through the education system. We are seeing the role of the parent being replaced by… Continue reading

Sermon: A Letter to the Model Church

Danny was the preacher at St Andrew’s Baptist Church on Sunday and he referred to three passages that map the spiritual journey of the Ephesian church: one from Acts, one from Ephesians and one from Revelation. This was with the specific situation at St. Andrew’s in mind, although there is application for any believer.

If interested, feel free to listen below – hope it is a blessing:

How Jesus spoke indicates who He is

Questioning if Jesus Christ is actually God is a common challenge that can be responded to in various ways but there is one very clear piece of evidence, that is how Jesus spoke.

In the Old Testament, the Lord used the prophets to relay His messages to those concerned, so you see the prophets starting with “the Lord Almighty says …” or “Thus says the Lord …“:

Thus says the Lord: “Keep justice, and do righteousness, For My salvation is about to come, And My righteousness to be revealed. (Isaiah 56:1 NKJV)

Thus says the Lord: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes… Continue reading

The Explosion of Fake News

We have seen an explosion of fake news. It’s amazing how quickly a new phrase can become part of day-to-day speech in our culture and there is no better example of this than the term ‘fake news’. So, what is ‘fake news’? Well, this is not as easy to define as you may think so we’ve borrowed the two definitions found on the BBC website:

  1. False stories that are deliberately published or sent around, in order to make people believe something untrue or to get lots of people to visit a website. These are deliberate lies that are put online, even though the person writing them knows that they… Continue reading
The Law is Paralysed - a description of the UK?

In the United Kingdom we can see many examples where the law is paralysed. Throughout the Old Testament, the prophets would frequently lament the corruption and injustice they witnessed within their nation.

Micah, for example, paints a shocking picture of the immorality of his day:

The faithful have been swept from the land; not one upright person remains. Everyone lies in wait to shed blood; they hunt each other with nets. Both hands are skilled in doing evil; the ruler demands gifts, the judge accepts bribes, the powerful dictate what they desire– they all conspire together. The best of them is like a brier, the most upright worse than a… Continue reading

Moral duplicity leading up to the World Cup

This week, Argentina were due to play their final World Cup warm-up match against Israel in Jerusalem. However, as the BBC reported, Argentina pulled out of the match after the recent Gaza violence due to the belief that the players “were not willing to play the game”. The reference to violence relates to recent clashes on the Israeli border in which 120 Palestinians lost their lives in May. This was a shocking loss of life and the action of the Israeli army does appear to be heavy-handed despite the insistence of the IDF that it was proportional to the threat posed by the protesters. However, analysing the right’s and… Continue reading
