The Fiery Furnace and Black Lives Matter

The book of Daniel is one of the most incredible in the Bible for those with an interest in prophecy. However, there are also some interesting passages about the lifestyle of a faithful follower of the Lord. Daniel 1 outlines the extreme faithfulness of Daniel and his three companions who refused to compromise on the tiniest details of their faith when taken in exile to Babylon. This even included following a religious diet, despite the fact that the temple and holy city were completely destroyed and they had every reason to believe their God had abandoned them.

The account in Daniel 3 contains another example of faithful living in an… Continue reading

John MacArthur's church files lawsuit against State

In the times we live in, we often lament the extreme shortage of solid Bible teachers in the church landscape. One of the few we would recommend as being serious about Scripture is John MacArthur. It has been interesting to observe the response of the church to the Covid lockdown, particularly his church which we would argue has taken a fairly provocative stance in this instance by filing a lawsuit against the State.

We recently blogged about whether churches were being unfairly treated by the secular authorities in relation to the UK. We concluded that, as things stand, we do not feel that the church is being treated unfairly during… Continue reading

UAE and Israel agree to sign peace agreement

During these end times, it’s important to watch worldwide events for key markers that indicate the return of Jesus Christ is even closer. Events concerning Israel are particularly important and so the recent news where the UAE and Israel agree to sign peace agreement is getting some attention. This surprise ‘historic deal’ certainly changes things in the Middle East where tensions have always been on a knife-edge. Perhaps we are witnessing a significant piece on the Bible prophecy timeline being put into place.

The deal is seen as historic because previously only two Arab nations – Egypt and Jordon – have had agreements with Israel. The last one being over… Continue reading

Sermon: Be alert and of sober mind

Recently, Steve recorded a sermon for St. Andrews Baptist church looking at Peter’s epistles.

These two powerful epistles cover many topics including salvation, living a holy life, and end time prophecy with Jesus Christ’s second coming. They command us to always be ready to give a reason for the hope we have. They provide more details about the resurrection and how Jesus went and proclaimed to the disobedient imprisoned spirits. These short letters are also packed full with encouragement and hope.

As well as this, there is a repeated message that Paul wanted to make clear to his readers:

Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober,… Continue reading

Sermon: The Affliction of Job

The first two chapters of the book of Job are difficult reading and raise uncomfortable questions for the Christian. How could God agree to allow Satan to target Job with such cruel suffering? Could I become the subject of some divine test of my faith like Job?

It is worth persisting with the book as it is important to remember that there is a very happy ending. We defy any believer to read through chapters 38-42 without being left with a powerful sense of the incredible awe and majesty of God. However, this book does force us to confront the awkward question of affliction for the faithful follower, which is… Continue reading

The UK Church and the Black Lives Matter movement

Over recent weekends, we have witnessed violent protests as the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement responds to the tragic and indefensible death of George Floyd in the US. As the fallout spills into the UK, last weekend’s protests were met with counter-protests this weekend which also ended in violence; a situation made worse by the unqualified endorsement of BLM by most of the mainstream media. The sight of the UK police ‘taking the knee’ before BLM protesters and the defacing of symbols of British history has added to the sense of unease and polarised an already volatile situation.

Although we unequivocally support the notion that black lives matter, we fear… Continue reading

Knock at the door - How to challenge a Jehovah's Witness

Do you dread conversations with Jehovah’s Witnesses? They are well trained with prepared responses to common questions we ask around Jesus’ deity, the Holy Spirit, the Trinity, and others. This can be frustrating so it’s important we prepare too so we can ask questions that will challenge a Jehovah’s Witness.

We don’t want to spend hours in discussions and it’s highly unlikely any JW will change their beliefs on your doorstep. The main aim is to get them thinking or ‘putting a stone in their shoe’. Below are a couple of simple tactics to get your visitors thinking.

You can get into many topics with Jehovah Witnesses, but the most… Continue reading
