Within Christian circles, there is sometimes a fierce debate about the timing of the rapture of the Church and where this fits into biblical eschatology.

The ‘Doomsday Clock’ has recently been moved to 100 seconds to midnight. This clock, which is designed to warn the public about how close we are to destroying the world with dangerous technologies of our own making, is the closest to midnight it’s been since creation in 1947 as the Atomic Scientists’ Science and Security Board aim to raise awareness of existential dangers threatening humanity. It’s certainly been a turbulent start to 2020! With the assassination of Iranian Major General Qassem Soleimani only a few days into the new year, the world has been on high alert for many nations being dragged into war. Since then, Iran has retaliated with a missile strike on Iraqi military bases that house U.S. forces. Although this didn’t result in any casualties, fears grow that this could escalate very quickly and only heightens rumours that a major war is not far away. This is symptomatic of Jesus’ warning of what the world will be like before his return as we know Iran is an end time key player.

It can often seem as though the world is spiralling out of control. Our news reports consistently paint a bleak picture of unrelenting chaos with the latest story of disaster being quickly replaced by a new crisis. In recent days, the reports of the devastating bushfires in Australia has only been overshadowed by the killing of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani and the resulting escalation of international tension, particularly in the Middle East.
