It is essential to know how to be saved. There are no formal steps to follow to be saved as it is what you believe in your heart that matters. Salvation is not found in religion or works, but in a Person…the Lord Jesus Christ! You need to understand that your sin separates you from God and that He will judge you when you face Him on the day of judgment. If you confess that you are a sinner, deserving Hell and believe that Jesus Christ died to pay for your sins and that He rose again then you can be saved.
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23 NIV)
Jesus said that you need to be born again to enter into the kingdom of God:
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” (John 3:3 NIV)
This means becoming a new creation which happens when you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour:
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV)
You need to trust on the completed work of Christ in your place on the cross and in His bodily resurrection, thereby defeating death and making you acceptable in God’s sight. This is all you need to believe, to be born again and for the Holy Spirit dwell in you and become born again. You can now live with a restored connection with your Creator God in a relationship!
So, how do you call on the Lord? By talking to the Lord with a simple prayer. You can say whatever words you feel are appropriate – He knows you intimately so don’t worry about saying the wrong thing, but maybe something like this:
Always pray in Jesus’ name as Jesus is the only way to talk to the Father. Here are some Bible verses concerning salvation:
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6 NIV)
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. (Romans 10:9-10 NIV)
For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. (John 6:40 NIV)
Now that you are saved, you are born again and you need to turn from your sins and live for Christ and for His glory. It is important to read the Bible regularly to learn about Jesus and keep in a close relationship with the Lord – if you are not sure where to begin why not start by reading one of the gospels – maybe Luke or John’s gospel? The book of Genesis is naturally a good starting point in the Old Testament. Please contact us if you do not have a Bible!
Giving your life to Christ produces a spiritual change so do not be overly concerned if there are no dramatic emotional feelings straight away but be reassured that the angels in heaven are rejoicing for you the moment you made that commitment:
In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents. (Luke 15:10 NIV)
