The Power of God – An Illustration

An LED bulb runs on about 10 watts. A high-speed train needs a few million. A big UK power station? Produces few billion.

Then there’s the sun. In one second, it gives out more energy than the human race has used in its entire history.

One second.

And Genesis 1:16 mentions the stars almost in passing: “He made the stars also.” Billions of suns. Four words. Like an afterthought.

Here’s what gets me. Ephesians 1 says the power that raised Christ from the dead is the same power available to us who believe. That power. For us.

This is really hard for us to grasp. We certainly don’t wake up most mornings remembering it.

Here’s a short video to try an illustrate the scale of God’s power.

If you’re struggling right now, or God feels a long way off, rest in the knowledge of His power.

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. (Ephesians 1:18–21 NIV)
