Deception

The Explosion of Fake News

We have seen an explosion of fake news. It’s amazing how quickly a new phrase can become part of day-to-day speech in our culture and there is no better example of this than the term ‘fake news’. So, what is ‘fake news’? Well, this is not as easy to define as you may think so we’ve borrowed the two definitions found on the BBC website:

  1. False stories that are deliberately published or sent around, in order to make people believe something untrue or to get lots of people to visit a website. These are deliberate lies that are put online, even though the person writing them knows that they… Continue reading
Hands on Bible praying, self reflection, looking at ourselves

We are living in very testing times, the world is rapidly changing as our post-Christian society gains traction. Instead of churches separating themselves from changes around us that compromise scripture they are choosing the opposite to be seen as modern and appealing. The stakes are massive here as relationships with God walk a tightrope for both churches and individuals. There is a serious need to look at ourselves and our personal relationship with God to assess if changes need to be made.

The health of a church is largely down to the leader and the team they have around them. Ultimately, church leaders are called to shepherd the flock and… Continue reading

The Peculiar Alliance between the far-left and Islam

If you look at the culture within the UK, you could say there are two powerful forces that have been on the rise in recent years that have a great influence on life: the far-left and Islam. On paper, these two worldviews are so diametrically opposed to each other that it’s virtually impossible to find any common ground. However, in this blog, Dave Reagan points out that it is what they are both opposed to that is a more powerful force than what their differences are – both camps are so blinded by their ‘common hatred of Christianity’ (which is commonly mistaken for the far-right) that they overlook their… Continue reading

Two Sermons on 1 Corinthians 10

In recent weeks, Danny has been asked to preach at St Andrew’s Baptist Church on two occasions. He has worked through 1 Corinthians 10 which is an incredibly practical passage – although this passage is particularly relevant for St Andrew’s at the present time, there is much in the way of practical advice for any church in these times of extreme moral volatility and confusion within society.

Feel free to listen to the sermons and we hope they are a blessing…

Sermon 1 – Lessons from the History of God’s People

The first sermon covers 1 Corinthians 10:1-13:

Noah's ark in the sea, return of the 'days of Noah' are end time signs

When asked about the signs of the end times in the Olivet Discourse, Jesus drew a parallel between the ‘days of Noah’ and the days prior to His return – effectively Jesus was saying that there would be a repeat of the situation that led to the flood:

But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also… Continue reading

Do 25% of Christians really believe the resurrection did not happen?

We have regularly stressed the fundamental truth that Christianity without the resurrection is not Christianity – our faith hinges on the historicity of Christ been raised from the dead, never to die and this makes Him utterly unique among anyone in history. This fundamental truth is under constant attack.

In the week leading up to Easter, the BBC displayed the headline news that according to a quarter of Christians, the ‘resurrection did not happen’.

What was not clear was that this survey distinguished between ‘active’ and ‘non-active’ Christians and the 25% figure comes from combining the groups – ie. it included ‘non-active’ Christians. We are also not told how an… Continue reading

Church with lightning above showing perilous time will come

Those who have an interest in prophecy will be very familiar with 2 Timothy 3:1-7 – it is a passage that is regularly the subject of church sermons and is one of the key passages concerning end time indicators. It clearly provides an accurate description of the world around us and it is patently obvious that this prophecy is being uniquely fulfilled in this generation. In fact, it’s quite frightening to consider how accurately this describes society today which alone should be an urgent wake-up call to stay alert and not be distracted or seduced by matters of this world. Perilous times will come into the Church if they are… Continue reading
