With the end of the Mayans “Long Count” calender approaching on Dec 21st 2012, many are asking if this has any significance and whether this could mean the “end of the world”! Some believe it is just a restart of a new cycle but others view it as a worldwide catastrophe. Either way the media has played a part in building up certain mindset – even Hollywood helps guide peoples thinking (e.g. with movies like 2012).
All this has caused thousands to gather at locations around the world in anticipation of something to happen:
There is only one source that has a 100% record with prophecy and that is the Bible! Let us stately categorically that the Bible says nothing about this particular date. We are, however, to live each day with the anticipation that Christ’s return IS imminent. There are currently many signs around that the Bible describes that lead us to believe time is short BUT we are cautioned in Matthew 24:36, that “concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.” It therefore unwise and foolish to set dates!
We suspect that Dec 21st 2012 will pass by much like any other day – in light of the above quote from Scripture, it is very unlikely that Jesus will return on a specific day and hour that many are expecting Him.
Having said this, we do believe that we are living in the times that Jesus described as signs of His coming and of the end of the age. Later in verse 42 and 44 of the same passage, Jesus commands His followers to “stay awake” and be “ready” for “the Son of Man “is coming at an hour you do not expect”.
Please seriously consider whether if you were to meet Christ before His judgment seat today – WOULD YOU BE READY?!
