This has hit the news in the UK over the weekend where a building in Berlin has been designed that allows for followers of Christianity, Judaism and Islam to worship under the same roof – Berlin House of One: The first church-mosque-synagogue? (BBC News)
Although this is not a huge surprise given the steady push towards a religious unity and the “hybridisation” of religion that is evident particularly in Europe, we do find it hard to imagine what the church is thinking as it pursues this project.
Firstly, by becoming involved in this, the church appears to be conceding that Judaism and Islam are equal partners in leading people towards God. Jesus emphatically taught that this was wrong:
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)
Secondly, we find it hard to believe that Jesus Christ would agree with the apparent “stamp of approval” of the other two religions by this church as the Lord made it clear that salvation was ONLY possible through Him – why then would the church share a “worship” centre with what Jesus would describe as false religions that cannot save? This is forbidden throughout Scripture.
Thirdly, the Bible makes it clear that God is a jealous God and does NOT share worship with other (false) gods:
For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God (Exodus 34:14)
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. (John 17:3, emphasis added)
We do not believe God could approve of a church that openly promotes the notion that there are many ways to God or that these three religions believe in the same God. Christians are commanded to take a stand against the worship of false religious systems – churches are certainly not supposed to “bridge-build” and become involved in acts of worship that would be seen as in allegiance with them! There is not a hint in Scripture of God permitting worship that is partially directed at Him but also shared with other false gods – this is abhorrent from God’s perspective and yet this church will be directly involved in this.
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them (Ephesians 5:11)
Just imagine what Christians in many parts of the world where Muslims brutally and relentlessly persecute followers of Christ will make of witnessing the “church” sharing worship with a religious system that is so flagrantly anti-Christian. This is foolish of the church and another step towards the formation of the coming one-world religious system.
We should certainly lovingly reach out to both Jews and Muslims to point them towards Jesus Christ. This, however, is an endorsement of their futile search for salvation via Judaism and Islam and further degrades the image of the true church. This is to be expected in these last days as the mainstream church marches on towards Babylon, but no saved Christian should have any part with it.
And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.(Revelation 18:4-5)
