Britons will go to the polls tomorrow to vote for a new government to guide the UK through the next five years. With the dramatic days we are living through, this is a huge responsibility and something that should be of great interest to every Christian. Unfortunately, the track record of the main parties does not provide much hope that Biblical values will be prominent by any British government for the foreseeable future.
Despite this, it is worth looking at the policies of the political parties on Biblical issues. The Christian Institute have created a really helpful briefing that summarises each parties position on issues that will be on the radar of Bible-believing Christians – Christian Institute – Election Briefing 2015.
The UK has taken virtually every opportunity to step further away from Biblical values over the last few decades and God’s patience must be running out. We fear that subtle (and not-so-subtle) persecution of Bible-believing Christians will dramatically increase over the next five years, whoever wins the election. We know this nation will only get a leader we deserve and that they will not be a professing Christian but we need to pray for that leader! We need to pray that God will open his/her heart to the truth of the Gospel message and that through their repentance they can call this whole nation to repent!
It’s going to be increasingly harder to share our faith and point the lost to their Saviour – ironically, this will occur during a time where Bible Prophecy continues to be fulfilled at a greater rate than ever before! We are indeed living in crazy times – the world is shaping up exactly as the Bible foretells and yet there has never been a generation more dismissive of Scripture than the one we are living in! Maybe this is part of God’s plan? As his hand of protection is lifted from the UK the remnant Church will grow stronger, as Proverbs 27:17 says “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” Lawlessness will increase all around us but God will protect His true remnant.
We pray for the Lord’s mercy and godly wisdom as we look with dismay at the defiance that surrounds us that is directed towards our wonderful Creator and Saviour. Come soon Lord Jesus!
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (Matthew 28:19-20)
Amen and amen!
