In recent times, the UN has sunk to new depths in their demonization of Israel by passing two new resolutions – they are both so absurd, it’s difficult to know how to comment.
Two months ago, Israel was singled at for women’s rights violations. Surrounded by countries that have discriminatory laws that marginalize women and where ‘honour-killings’ are common, the UN singled out Israel as top women’s rights violator – no mention at all was made of the many other countries that have a deplorable record when it comes to women’s rights.
If that wasn’t enough, another UN resolution was passed last week that singled Israel out as the only violator of ‘mental, physical and environmental health’. Again, if any right-minded person reads the phrase ‘violator of mental, physical and environmental health’, it is ridiculous to suggest that Israel would come to mind before any other country in the world.
Just to put this in context, at the UN’s General Assembly 2015 session on condemning countries, 20 resolutions were passed that specifically attacked Israel for human rights issues and only 3 on the rest of the world (Syria, Iran and North Korea).
It seems that the UN primarily exists to single out Israel for any perceived grievance whilst turning a virtual blind eye to the many other countries who are far worse. Of even more concern to us it that the UK is often singing the tune of the UN in this circus. How can anyone in their right mind deny that there is a concerted effort to demonize, vilify and delegitimise the Jewish state? Even if we leave aside the obscene injustice and double-standards in all of this, what a woeful waste of time and resources. Just to be clear, we are not trivializing the plight of the Palestinians – this is a serious issue, but the Palestinians leadership (and others) share a huge part of the blame for their suffering. Not only this, why is it only Israel that is the subject of the vast majority of UN resolutions when a far greater number of people are subject to suffering of a much greater magnitude caused by other countries that are not mentioned at all? Despite being in a position to do so much good, the UN has become the tool of an anti-semitic political agenda – it would be great to see the UN take a firm stand against this, but there does not appear much sign of this.
The Bible predicts that the nations of the world are going to be dragged into a battle against Israel that paves the way for the return of Jesus Christ – never before has the world been so well poised for a dramatic fulfilment of this prophecy. Until then, have nothing to do those who falsely accuse the Jews…
A day of the Lord is coming, Jerusalem, when your possessions will be plundered and divided up within your very walls. I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped. Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city. Then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations, as he fights on a day of battle. On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south. You will flee by my mountain valley, for it will extend to Azel. You will flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the Lord my God will come, and all the holy ones with him. On that day there will be neither sunlight nor cold, frosty darkness. It will be a unique day—a day known only to the Lord—with no distinction between day and night. When evening comes, there will be light. On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half of it east to the Dead Sea and half of it west to the Mediterranean Sea, in summer and in winter. The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and his name the only name. (Zechariah 14:1-9)
