As the COVID pandemic continues to disrupt every continent on the planet, there are ambitious plans being put in place to improve the state of the world. The COVID crisis has created a window of opportunity to change the world for the better. We are told that time is running out and that we cannot miss this opportunity. It seems now is the time for The Great Reset.
The World Economic Forum (WEF) says:
2020 will go down in history as one of the most eventful years of our generation. While it is a year that most people want to see the back of, it should really act as a catalyst to grab our attention! 2020 has seen major events that will undoubtedly shape our future – there will be no going back to ‘normal’ as new ways and ‘rules’ will be introduced that will be here to stay. This should be a wake up call to each of us to look at what is happening around the world and see that we are heading to events of Biblical proportions.

During these end times, it’s important to watch worldwide events for key markers that indicate the return of Jesus Christ is even closer. Events concerning Israel are particularly important and so the recent news where the UAE and Israel agree to sign peace agreement is getting some attention. This surprise ‘historic deal’ certainly changes things in the Middle East where tensions have always been on a knife-edge. Perhaps we are witnessing a significant piece on the Bible prophecy timeline being put into place.

Friday was VE Day which marked 75 years since the formal end of World War 2 in Europe. When we look at the horrific impact of WW2 – 60-80 million people died, 6 million of those were Jews – it’s hard to see any positives. Currently, we’re in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic where so far over 255,000 have died worldwide. Whatever events we see in the world around us it’s important to put our trust in God as we can easily let world events distract us from our creator. The ‘Doomsday Clock’ has recently been moved to 100 seconds to midnight. This clock, which is designed to warn the public about how close we are to destroying the world with dangerous technologies of our own making, is the closest to midnight it’s been since creation in 1947 as the Atomic Scientists’ Science and Security Board aim to raise awareness of existential dangers threatening humanity. It’s certainly been a turbulent start to 2020! With the assassination of Iranian Major General Qassem Soleimani only a few days into the new year, the world has been on high alert for many nations being dragged into war. Since then, Iran has retaliated with a missile strike on Iraqi military bases that house U.S. forces. Although this didn’t result in any casualties, fears grow that this could escalate very quickly and only heightens rumours that a major war is not far away. This is symptomatic of Jesus’ warning of what the world will be like before his return as we know Iran is an end time key player.

Steve was asked to preach at St Andrew’s Baptist Church on 3rd November. His sermon titled Psalm 143 – A Morning Prayer draws parallels from the crisis David was in to what we experience personally and see in the world around us.
