From this evening to the evening of 15th October the feast of Sukkot is celebrated. Also known as the Feast of Tabernacles or Booths and is the day in the Jewish Calendar where there is a transition from the sombre period of Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur into the joyous time. We describe more details in our article The Biblical Feasts and Jesus Christ. This feast provides the climax of the other feasts and Jews were to erect a booth/tabernacle and dwell within it during this period. Haaretz has an interesting article on the history of this feast –
The history of Sukkot, once the most important Jewish holiday of all.
This concept of “dwelling” with God most likely foreshadows the future millennial reign of Christ within He will tabernacle with those who have been saved by Him! It is quite possible that Jesus was born during this festival – another example of God dwelling with man!
Today also marks the second in the tetrad of blood moons that all fall on Jewish High Feast Days which is quite a coincidence. The final blood moon occurs on next years Sukkot and this one, even more strikingly, happens to be a “Super Moon”!
We believe the Lord has carefully and precisely laid out the heavens and the earth, using signs in the heavens to announce troublesome times for Israel. There can be no doubt that since the first blood moon earlier this year on Passover, there has been a considerable escalation in military and political activity between Israel and it’s neighbours. It seems convincing to be another factor that adds up to us being in the end times as the Lord wraps the times of the gentiles in preparation for his long-awaited return!
Let’s pray that worldwide Jewry will enjoy a joyous and peaceful 7-day celebration and that they would see how these feasts that were instituted by God all point to salvation in Jesus Christ!
