This year, Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) begins this Friday evening, October 3 and ends Saturday evening. As we cover in our Biblical Feasts and Jesus Christ article, this would be the only day of the year that high priest will enter the Holy of Holies in the temple to make a sacrifice for his sins and the sins of the people. For Christians, Jesus Christ entered the heavenly Holy of Holies with a one time sacrifice of His blood for all of our sins. This is why believing in Jesus is our only way into heaven, we cannot earn our entry, it is through faith alone!

Many people believe that this is the feast that Jesus Christ will return on, but we know it will not be this year, or the next few years as the seven tribulation period will need to begin first. As the Jewish people complete the Ten Days of Repentance and start their fasting and prayer service we pray this can be done peacefully throughout the world.

David Cameron recorded a message to all those around the world and in Britain for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. His message included the following:

And they give us a chance to look forward to a future free from conflict and prejudice. That means lasting peace in the Middle East – a future where families don’t live in fear of rocket attacks. And it means wiping out prejudice in this country because we will not tolerate anti-Semitism in Britain.

Lasting peace in the Middle East” is something that could be described as wishful thinking, we know the world is heading into a period that the Bible covers in great detail. Reaching a point “where families don’t live in fear of rocket attacks” will only happen if we stand with Israel against terrorist groups surrounding them who wish to wipe them off the map! We need to stop hiding behind political correctness by insisting Islam is a “peaceful” religion when it clearly isn’t! Mr Cameron also mentions anti-semitism, this is a rising problem in Europe and around the world, even in the UK shocking decisions are being made against Israel and the Jewish people (we have covered a couple here and here). We pray the UK government does take standing against antisemitism seriously if any events occur in this country.

We hope the Jewish community welcome this message from our Prime Minister, but of course, actions speak louder than words! There is going to be hard decisions for the UK government to make in the near future, that could have serious implications on this country if they are the wrong ones!

As the Jewish people pray and fast to draw closer to God, we pray they can have their eyes opened to the truth of their Messiah Jesus Christ, only in Him can true peace be found!
