Very few Western church leaders understand the Middle East as well as Canon Andrew White. Also known as the ‘vicar of Baghdad’, Andrew White has intimate knowledge of the difficulties of living for Jesus Christ in a majority Muslim region. Not only this, he has a unique understanding of the complexities of the Middle East peace process and the animosity towards the Jews from surrounding nations and the world at large.
We have blogged before on the flagrant bias against Israel demonstrated by many international ‘peacekeeping’ bodies such as the UN which do little to conceal their obsession against the only democracy in the Middle East – they appear to… Continue reading
Last Sunday (New Years Day), Danny was asked to preach at St Andrew’s Baptist Church and he gave a sermon entitled ‘Prepared as a Bride’ where he looked into the need for being prepared, watchful and alert in these uncertain times.
2 Corinthians 4:16-5:10 was used as a base text and there were three themes that were expounded that are particularly relevant at the start of a New Year:
- The need for Perspective
- The need for Purity
- The need for Passion
Although this message was given specifically with St Andrew’s Baptist Church in mind, there will no doubt be an application for any church or individual.
Feel free to listen… Continue reading
Those who have an interest in prophecy will be very familiar with 2 Timothy 3:1-7 – it is a passage that is regularly the subject of church sermons and is one of the key passages concerning end time indicators. It clearly provides an accurate description of the world around us and it is patently obvious that this prophecy is being uniquely fulfilled in this generation. In fact, it’s quite frightening to consider how accurately this describes society today which alone should be an urgent wake-up call to stay alert and not be distracted or seduced by matters of this world. Perilous times will come into the Church if they are… Continue reading
One of the most recognized and memorized Bible verses in the world is John 3:16:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
Many non-Christians will be familiar will this passage – however, its familiarity can lead to us missing things. The whole of John 3 is a fantastic summary of the gospel but there are assumptions in mainstream evangelical Christianity that are very dangerous. One of these is the ‘once saved, always saved’ doctrine that is promoted by many churches – this states that if you have made a profession… Continue reading

Church worship is one of the most intimate acts that exist between the Christian and the Lord God. We’ve all heard of dour and cold churches where the ‘singing’ of hymns sounds more like a funeral service than the heartfelt praise and adoration to our Creator – however, the reverse of this is also a serious problem…something this blogger describes as “performancism”. He goes on to outline this as being a pretence of worship with, “The worship leader as the performer. The congregation as the audience. The sanctuary as the concert hall.” This is a serious issue and something every Christian should be on guard against and it is… Continue reading
Do you go to church every Sunday because that is what you’ve always done? Maybe you have a group of friends that you like to catch up with each week? We all go through the motions every Sunday to some degree but our attitude to worship is important, so do we still just go through the motions?
Worshipping God is all about the attitude of our heart! Many churches feel the need to have a loud band on a stage at the front – is your worship focused on the entertainment or on the cross of Calvary where Jesus died for us? God knows where our heart is, He knows… Continue reading
