The Bible makes frequent references to marriage being a picture of the church’s relationship to Christ – consider two of the most obvious examples below:
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed… Continue reading
By any measure, there have been enormous changes in thinking sweeping across society over the last few years, leaving many uneasy with the pace and scale of the change. Worryingly for some, most of these changes are leading to every firm pillar of Biblical morality being swept from underneath an entire generation. Whether it’s the sanctity of life, sexual conduct/attitudes, the definition of marriage or gender identity, the sheer aggression and intolerance that accompanies these changes is the most disturbing feature – especially as it’s the youngest in society who are now being targeted, primarily through the education system. While children should be enjoying times of innocence, nurture and exploration,… Continue reading
Christians are under pressure (if not under attack) for their views on same-sex marriage, gender identity and other related topics. Those who stand up for Biblical values on sexuality and marriage are accused of being divisive or worse!
This is a very good blog from Stand to Reason that we recommend reading – The Pragmatic Benefits of God-Given Sexual Boundaries.
It is ‘reason’ that many people struggle with as Christianity is usually singled out as the problem in our ‘modern’ culture. It is welcoming to read some rational thoughts on this subject that have become over-complicated and driven by ’emotion’ more than reason.
As sexual scandals now dominate our… Continue reading
When asked about the signs of the end-times in the Olivet Discourse, Jesus drew a parallel between the ‘days of Noah’ and the days prior to His return – effectively Jesus was saying that there would be a repeat of the situation that led to the flood:
But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the… Continue reading
It is increasingly obvious that the mainstream church simply adjusts it ‘position’ on moral and ethical issues depending on the changeable trends of the surrounding culture while going to extraordinary lengths to ‘explain away’ any problematic Bible passages. There is no better example than the Christian’s who proudly display rainbow flags in support of same sex ‘marriage’.
This excellent article poses 40 questions for Christians who are displaying rainbow flags – this is a sobering read and provides a clear insight into where society is going to head in coming years. If your church has thrown its support behind same-sex ‘marriage’, there is no Biblical basis to object to any… Continue reading
At present, the marriage debate is a hot topic with the recent SCOTUS ruling in America. This has led to many conversations about the ‘right’ to marry, some of which, especially on social media, can turn quite heated!
As Christians it is important to allow God and His Word to be the final authority in our exchanges and maintaining a loving, compassionate and graceful manner is vital whatever the reaction of others. There are many different questions around this issue and we don’t need to know all the answers but to have a basic understanding of the arguments and a good understanding of Scripture can help to stay calm… Continue reading
The Equality Commission for Northern Ireland has been the driving force behind a legal case against Ashers Baking Company for refusing to make a cake with a pro-gay marriage slogan. Yesterday a Belfast judge ruled in favour of gay-rights activist Gareth Lee as the BBC Reports.
In the current legal climate, this is no great surprise – the secular world is obsessed with silencing the views of Bible-believing Christians who simply want to follow the convictions of their faith. As usual, they have picked the softest possible target to ensure a cheap token ‘win’ – we can be fairly confident these gay-rights activists would not have the appetite or courage… Continue reading
