Recently it has been near impossible to watch the news without hearing something about Egypt. There is a prophecy against Egypt in the book of Isaiah that bears striking similarity:

The burden of Egypt. Behold, the Lord rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it. And I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians: and they shall fight every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbour; city against city, and kingdom against kingdom. And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst thereof; and I will destroy the counsel thereof: and they shall seek to the idols, and to the charmers, and to them that have familiar spirits, and to the wizards. And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord; and a fierce king shall rule over them, saith the Lord, the Lord of hosts. (Isaiah 19:1-4, emphasis added)

News reports clearly show Egyptians fighting against Egyptians:

Reuters – Egypt violence builds

The Telegraph – Violent clashes in Egypt amid warnings of civil war

4 News – Clerics warn of ‘civil war’ as Egypt erupts into violence

Time will tell if Mohammed Morsi is the “cruel lord” and “fierce king” described in verse 4.

Next we read that Egypt’s waters will dry up:

And the waters shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted and dried up. And they shall turn the rivers far away; and the brooks of defence shall be emptied and dried up: the reeds and flags shall wither. The paper reeds by the brooks, by the mouth of the brooks, and every thing sown by the brooks, shall wither, be driven away, and be no more. The fishers also shall mourn, and all they that cast angle into the brooks shall lament, and they that spread nets upon the waters shall languish. (Isaiah 19:5-8, emphasis added)

The phrase, “shall turn the rivers far away” describes something a little curious…how can a river be turned away?

Recent news reports show that Ethiopia are planning to build a giant hydroelectic dam on the Nile. Water from the Nile river is vital to Egypt, this dam does pose a threat Egypt’s water supply:

TIME – Ethiopia’s Plan to Dam the Nile Has Egypt Fuming

Whilst we are not saying this will definitely be the fulfilment of this prophecy, it is something to watch closely. We know that everyone of God’s prophecies will be fulfilled exactly as described, the developments we are witnessing on the news could lead to a precise fulfilment of Isaiah’s prophecy at some point in the foreseeable future.
