If you were asked to name the happiest group of people in the world, who would spring to mind? Research from the American Journal of Medical Genetics suggests that those with Down syndrome report incredibly high levels of happiness.
This is in stark contrast to the perception society likes to paint. There was a particularly notable and shocking example of this last year when Richard Dawkins claimed it was ‘immoral’ to allow Down’s babies to be born and said they should be aborted. Bizarrely, he attempted to justify this by saying the important question surrounding the abortion issue is ‘can it suffer?’ For him, it follows that based on the myth that those with Down syndrome live miserable lives, they should be killed in the womb despite research to the contrary. The research suggests that those with Down syndrome report ‘happiness’ levels of 98% – what other people group would report that level of ‘happiness’? If you follow Dawkins’ logic, EVERY people group would have to be aborted as suffering is an inevitable fact of life for all. Records indicate that approximately 1,000 abortions a year are carried out on babies whose scan reveal a possibility of Down syndrome, but the real figure is almost certainly much higher.
We believe that abortion is one of the greatest evils in our society – surely, there should be no safer place in the world for a baby than the womb of its mother – yet, it can be the most dangerous place to be. The passage below indicates that God literally ‘knits’ babies together in the womb – how offensive and destructive to destroy this work of God’s hands and rob babies of a life that can contribute and promise so much. Nowadays, the babies fate rests on the results of a scan or some other factor such as ‘convenience’ or the supposed ‘financial viability’ of the baby. How tragic that these precious human beings are often robbed of the opportunity for life under the false premise of supposed ‘compassion’ and the perverse ‘morality’ of our secular godless culture, despite evidence they can be happiest people around! Forgiveness and recovery are available for anyone who suffers from the immense guilt that can result from having an abortion – the first step is admitting it is wrong and the process of repentance will repair the broken relationship with God.

While we pray for a real change in heart on this issue in our country, but there are no signs of this – if anything, signs indicate that abortions may be carried out based on the gender of the baby in future…this nation seriously need prayer and for God to open our blinded eyes!
