By any barometer, the world appears to be going through a very turbulent period. Brexit dominates Europe (and particularly the UK) causing greater division by the day and many parts of the world are being pummelled by record-breaking storms and natural disasters. We believe the Lord is desperately trying to get our attention – everything is drawing towards a dramatic climax which we believe have all the hallmarks of the days leading to the return of Jesus Christ.
Amongst the stories of devastation and fear, it was great to hear the calm and reasoned defence of ‘traditional marriage’ and the ‘sanctity of life’ from politician Jacob Rees-Mogg this week. In a line of questioning that is very similar to what ended Tim Farron’s political career, we applaud Jacob who may well have ended any prospect of being a future PM (as was being touted by some) – the backlash as a result of this from the mainstream media will be vitriolic and unrelenting.
We highly recommend a read of this excellent blog by David Robertson (a church minister in Dundee, Scotland) who perfectly summarises the double standards by those who will predictably attack and mock Jacob for his comments. The blog refers to a disgusting cartoon displayed by The Times featuring Jacob as a foetus deserving abortion – the blogger draws our attention to a comment made in response in which the obvious hypocrisy was beautifully exposed – it says, ‘unless your ridicule is reserved only for Christians, perhaps in the influence of balance and fairness you might consider commissioning a cartoon on the view of Mohammed and Islam on both these issues?’. The is clearly no way The Times has the courage or moral consistency to do that – it is only those expressing support for Biblical morals that will be the victim of attacks like this. As is always the case on topics like ‘traditional marriage’ and the ‘sanctity of life’, it is only the Christian who is hung out to dry – rarely any other group and certainly not other religious groups such as Islam.
We need to pray for Jacob Rees-Mogg – he is a devout Catholic and we are not sure of his standing with the true gospel of Jesus Christ. However, he clearly places the moral and theological tenets of his faith much higher than his career – it’s rare to see such displays of integrity from those in the media spotlight. We pray that the Lord Jesus will protect him and remain close to him and that he will enjoy the blessings of a closer union with God than ever before. Many have been touting him as a future PM – this is far less likely now and this country does not deserve a Biblical Christian PM, but nothing is impossible with God.
We are living is fearsome times and the world is changing so fast – our moral bearings have been so perverted, society appears to be a state of complete confusion. God is a graceful and merciful God, but we believe time is running out. We humbly encourage you to make sure you are in the small minority who buck the trend, go against the tide and walk through the narrow door to salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ – there is no other way.
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (Matthew 7:13-14)
