Jesus provided two principles that apply to end times that He consistently taught that can appear to be in tension with each:
- That no-one knows the day or the hour of His return, therefore date-setting is forbidden
- We were not unprepared when Jesus does return and that He has provided many signs and conditions in the world that mean His return is imminent
In fact, these complement each other perfectly – we must treat each day as though we expect our Master back at any moment and recognize the signs of His imminent return whilst never setting a date for the Second Coming. There are many who study Bible Prophecy who believe the world could be in for significant turbulence ahead and some of the reasons tie-in with signs of the end times. Whilst we are at pains to stress we are not date-setting – please see a summary below of things that it would be worth keeping an eye over the next couple of months:
The Shemitah (Sept 13th) – This date operates on a seven-year cycle and has been very eventful on the last few occasions and is definitely one to watch. The OT principal of the Shemitah centres on forgiveness of debt in the Jewish community and some commentators have made the link between this and financial judgment in recent times. We are unsure how this may apply to the world today, but cannot deny the remarkable coincidence with major events that have happened on this date. We have previously blogged about this and it should be no surprise if a dramatic event occurs on or very close to this date, particularly in the area of financial markets.
70th UN General Assembly Begins (Sept 15th) – This may include decisions and statements that directly affect Israel. Although the situation in the Middle East has seemed fairly quiet in the last few months, the whole region remains in turmoil. Iran has entered the picture significantly with the relaxing of sanctions and huge sums of money that will undoubtedly be used to further their nuclear capability. Syria remains in tatters with weaponry changing hands among many anti-Semitic groups and Lebanon and Gaza have both been involved in rocket exchanges in recent weeks with the Israeli’s. The whole region is a tinderbox with one spark needed to cause mayhem – the scene is set for battles of Biblical proportions over the holy city of Jerusalem. Pope visit to White House (Sept 23-25th) – We won’t comment too much on this as we are unsure what to make of it but this short article provides a useful summary, for interest. We believe the Pope and the Roman Catholic church is symbolic of a false Christ and false Christianity that will almost certainly be prominent in the end times religious system.
Final Blood Moon (Sept 28th) – This date will mark the final blood moon of a tetrad of four that have occurred over an 18 month period and have ALL happened on a major Jewish feast day. This is very unusual and what makes the final one more notable is that it is the only one visible in Jerusalem and ALSO happens to be a ‘super moon’! We have blogged on this and is worth keeping an eye on as these tetrads can signify dramatic events for Israel.
CERN (Sept) – Scientists are planning to begin a controversial experiment during Sept where they will attempt to open a black hole or discover ‘hidden extra dimensions’. At every level, this is off the scale in terms of foolishness – they have no idea what spiritual powers they are playing with here. There have been many experiments over the year, but this September will mark an intense period of activity which could lead to anything. This WND article contains more details and includes quotes from those undertaking this research which hint of more sinister intentions based on a humanistic evolutionary worldview. The obscene amount of money being ploughed into this type of research is horrifying especially when you consider the motive is to discover the ‘God’ particle and the origin of the world – this type of activity must be particularly provocative to our Creator God.
Increasing ungodliness (Ongoing) – In addition to the above, the escalation in general ungodliness is obvious. In the space of months, we have redefined marriage, continue to murder babies in the womb of their mother and continue to remove any mention of God from education, the work-place and our public services – the areas that need God the most. There is a concerted attack on the family unit and aggressive persecution of Christian’s with lawsuits by those who are ‘offended’ by Jesus Christ. It appears that each day any remaining Biblical boundaries of morality are challenged and stretched as society as a whole attempt to remove the name of the Lord and marginalize those who hold onto to His name.
Natural Disasters (Ongoing) – Although the frequency and ferocity of natural disaster are clearly heightening, there are experts who believe a huge natural disaster is imminent. Scroll down on the Signs of End Times website for more info and links about in the undeniable increase in activity.
This is by no means an exhaustive list, many other activities are also happening that could ignite on a global scale. There is also the fall Jewish feasts being celebrated during the next few months, they also add another prophetic dimension with the other events happening as many (including us) believe that significant events concerning Jesus’ Second Coming will coincide with the Autumn feasts.
We can have no excuse when the Lord’s patience runs out – the birth pangs in recent years are getting more powerful and frequent as this world appears to escalate out of control. Scripture instructs believers to be ready and there are signs all around that the end really could be nigh! Whether the rapture of the Church takes place next week or in many years to come, let’s hold onto our Lord in prayer and sober expectation whilst appealing to the lost to turn to the Lord.
And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. (Luke 21:34-36)
