It has been another very bad week or so for unborn babies.
Firstly, in the response to the Tories ‘confidence and supply’ agreement with the Democratic Ulster Party (DUP) of Northern Ireland, our government have agreed to finance the abortions for women from Northern Ireland where there is a far greater restriction on this practice. This announcement was greeted to cheers in the House of Commons and hailed as an injustice that has now been put right – not much justice if you are a healthy innocent baby though.
Secondly, the British Medical Association (BMA) have voted to ‘remove restrictions which ban abortion after 24 weeks of pregnancy unless there is a substantial risk to the woman or child’s life’. There is significant opposition to this motion within the medical profession, but it shows there is a determined effort within the BMA to loosen restrictions on abortion which will obviously make the practice more common and acceptable.
Both these developments show there is little regard for the unborn in our society and the reactions to those who oppose moves like this is met with increasing contempt. Over 8 million babies have been aborted since the Abortion Act 1967 – the vast majority of these perfectly healthy babies who are killed simply because their parents didn’t want them.
Andrea Williams, CEO of Christian Concern puts it poignantly where she comments, ‘The mark of a civilised society is how it treats the most vulnerable. Rather than protecting preborn children in their mothers’ wombs, the BMA has chosen to be complicit in their destruction. Those who are tasked with healing the sick have voted to kill the healthy. When our doctors display such a shocking disrespect for human life, we know we are a society in crisis.’ (emphasis added)
The quote above perfectly sums up where we are as a society which truly is in crisis. Anyone who has had an abortion or is involved in the abortion industry is a victim of a legal system that is not providing the boundaries and protection that it should – forgiveness is available for everyone, but we should call out this evil practice for what it is – abortion is the most overt and grotesque form of violence against humanity and there is little appetite within society to stem its increase. Another very clear sign of the end times…
Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths. The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace. (Isaiah 59:7-8)
